Day 6 of 30 Days Wild – Wind Farm Kites and Gusty Garden WindSocktopus! πŸ’¨πŸ™

The wind is wild today, so we thought we’d take advantage of this and give Pip and Bee some first hand experience of wind power by flying the kite that we recently rediscovered while clearing the loft. Our initial thoughts were to go out onto the Bay, but the tides were not inour favour. Where else will be exposed and windy and accessible by car, I thought? I know, Caton Moor wind farm! So off we headed… And yes, it was blowing an absolute hoolie! Unfortunately it was pretty chilly too…

Even more unfortunate was our failure to check the kite prior to departure. The handle was broken, leaving a knotted mess of string 😞 I managed to untangle just enough string for Daddy to keep it aloft while running Away!

I wasn’t sure if we’d ever see him again, but he did return eventually! So to the two cyclists up there, I apologise for the mad man running around trailing a kite behind him. Despite the cold, I think Pip enjoyed his kite flying experience. Bee on the other hand was napping in the car, which was probably for the best.

We then headed home to get warm, and up-cycled some carrier bags and a loo roll into a wind sock octopus, or Wind Socktopus! πŸ™ And had some fun in the gusty garden. 😊

I also made a Bee proof wind toy.

Even better though was the feather that she found which then flew away!

The Wind Socktopus is now residing outside secured to our Juliette balcony so we can see if it’s windy again tomorrow πŸ’¨πŸ™

  1. So pleased after your journey you managed to get a little flight out of the kite, I spent about an hour on the beach this summer trying to untangle one of ours but failed miserably! A little fresh air is always good though. The upcycled windstocktopus is quite inspired, I don’t know why I haven’t thought to do this before, we used bin bags and toilet rolls on Country Kids last week to make hot air balloons with the children staying, now I know I have another idea to try. Thank you for sharing with me on #Trash2Treasure and hope you will pop over to #CountryKids too.

    • Definitely going to make wind socktopuses again! Next time I’m going to make it with a plastic bottle instead of toilet roll tube – that way we can hang it outside for doing weather forecasts πŸ˜‰ Thanks for the linky and I’ll do my best t link up to #countrykids πŸ™‚ x
